[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yeom Tae-young, chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Advisory Council (former mayor of Suwon), has been appointed as the Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeonggi Province. This reappointment comes three days after the resignation of former Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Yong-jin, following a controversy over a drinking party with the representative member of the Provincial Assembly. Additionally, Kang Sung-chun, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, has been appointed as chairman of the Provincial Government Advisory Council.

On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon held an emergency press conference at the Gwanggyo New Government Building in Suwon, stating, "Yesterday (the 1st), we launched the Gyeonggi Province Livelihood Countermeasures Special Committee, a public-private policy consultative body, to proactively respond to the livelihood of residents and the recovery of Gyeonggi's economy at the provincial level." He added, "Believing that a situation more severe than any previous economic crisis could arise, we swiftly appointed a new Vice Governor for Economic Affairs."

He further explained the background of the appointment, saying, "Appointee Yeom Tae-young is a three-term mayor of Suwon and a top expert in local autonomy and regional decentralization. Having served as chairman of the Provincial Government Advisory Council, he is considered the best person to embody the communication and cooperative governance philosophy of the 8th elected administration."

He continued, "For the now-vacant position of chairman of the Provincial Government Advisory Council due to Yeom Tae-young’s appointment as Vice Governor for Economic Affairs, we have recommended Kang Sung-chun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups." He added, "Appointee Kang is an expert in industrial venture innovation and is essential for creating more and more equitable opportunities in Gyeonggi Province."

He also stated, "We are currently proceeding with the recruitment process for professional fixed-term positions such as the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, and announcements for the recruitment of spokesperson and auditor, important positions in the provincial government, are scheduled for the 3rd." He emphasized, "The personnel appointments of department heads on the 25th of last month and the announcement of section chief-level appointments yesterday (the 1st) express our determination to swiftly stabilize the provincial government and move forward focused solely on the residents without wavering."

He expressed deep regret over the 'standstill' in the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly regarding the election of the chairperson and other matters.

Governor Kim said, "We have made various efforts to open the Provincial Assembly, but recently an unfortunate incident occurred. I express my sincere regret to the leaders of both parties and the Provincial Assembly." He added, "I hope the Provincial Assembly will normalize as soon as possible so that necessary policies can be implemented in a timely manner."
