"Thank you, Samsung Electro-Mechanics. I love you."
The 12 crooked handwritten characters have recently become a hot topic among Samsung Electro-Mechanics employees. This is because Yoon Seol-i, the first child featured in the company's donation project 'Sharing Kiosk,' expressed her gratitude to Kim Ik-su, a Samsung Electro-Mechanics professional who helps her study Hangul every week.
On the 2nd, Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced that three months after starting a project where employees voluntarily donate 1,000 won each, they raised 27 million won and delivered it to nine children. Sharing kiosks, where 1,000 won is donated each time an employee scans their ID card, were installed in various places around the company such as cafeterias and lobbies at the Suwon, Sejong, and Busan sites to encourage employee participation. President Jang Deok-hyun also encouraged participation by scanning his ID card at the sharing kiosks whenever he used the company cafeteria. The collected funds were introduced on the intranet immediately after being delivered to the story’s protagonists to further encourage employee participation.
According to Samsung Electro-Mechanics, when the kiosks were first installed in April, it took two weeks to reach the target amount of 3 million won, but participation gradually increased, and the amount was collected in just nine days. One out of every three domestic employees participated in the donation, and the participation rate was high enough that each participating employee tagged their ID card about eight times, Samsung Electro-Mechanics explained.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics was the first among Samsung affiliates to start operating the sharing kiosks. They are encouraging employee participation by linking it to volunteer activities utilizing employees’ talents. A Samsung Electro-Mechanics official said, "Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ excellent sharing case is expected to be expanded and applied to all affiliates."
The sharing kiosks started at Samsung Electronics’ Gumi plant in 2015, then spread to Suwon in 2016, Hwaseong in 2020, and last year to Yongin, Pyeongtaek, and Cheonan-Onyang plants. Among affiliates, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung Display, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Securities, and Samsung Biologics completed installations in the first half of the year. In the second half, 22 kiosks will be installed at Samsung Electronics’ production subsidiaries in five countries: the United States, China, India, Vietnam, and Thailand.
