Emergency Response Headquarters Meeting Held
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council has requested prompt action from Gwangju's quarantine authorities, including support for free COVID-19 PCR testing.
On the 31st, the Gwangju Metropolitan Council announced that it held an emergency response headquarters meeting (headed by Jeong Muchang) to devise measures and responses to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19 infections, including the recent increase in overseas inflow of the highly transmissible BA.5 variant.
The council members agreed to recommend to Gwangju City the expansion of free screening clinics as a countermeasure against the increase in so-called "hidden infections," where people avoid testing due to the cost and thus remain infected without receiving a confirmed diagnosis.
In particular, they emphasized that thorough preparations such as securing hospital beds and medical staff in anticipation of an increase in critically ill patients, along with bold measures to reduce the summer resurgence, must be swiftly implemented.
They also appealed for citizens to strictly adhere to voluntary quarantine rules and personal hygiene management as the summer vacation season has officially begun.
Meanwhile, the emergency response headquarters meeting was held via online video conference to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
