[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 29th at 2 p.m., Gangnam-gu Mayor Jo Seong-myeong visited the Gangnam-gu COVID-19 dedicated hospitals, ‘Hana ENT Hospital’ and ‘Gangnam Bedro Hospital’ (photo).
Mayor Jo Seong-myeong, who visited the dedicated hospitals, encouraged the hospital staff who have worked hard in responding to COVID-19 over the past two years and urged them to maintain a close cooperative system amid the current resurgence.
Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said, “We will continue high-level quarantine measures together with the two hospitals that have been a great help in Gangnam-gu’s COVID-19 response over the past two years,” and added, “Gangnam-gu will continue to do its best to protect the safety and health of its residents.”
Joo Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, checks on the well-being and health of the elderly with the belief that ‘the answer is on site’ through meal service volunteering.
On the 29th afternoon, Jungnang-gu announced that Mayor Joo Gyeong-gi volunteered to serve meals to elderly people at risk of missing meals at the Sinnae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center’s senior cafeteria. Meal service volunteering, which had been suspended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of the elderly, resumed after one year following the full lifting of social distancing measures.
On that day, Mayor Joo served a warm meal consisting of soup and rice to 90 elderly people and listened attentively to their voices while dining together with volunteers.
Mayor Joo Gyeong-gi said, “I deeply regretted not being able to visit and spend time with the elderly due to COVID-19, so it was a meaningful time to communicate through a meal after a long time,” and added, “I will continue to meet residents on site, listen to their voices, and do my best to repay them with better administration.”
Jungnang-gu operates 11 senior cafeterias and 7 home-delivered meal service sites for the elderly. It provides weekday lunch meals to about 1,130 elderly people who skip meals due to economic difficulties and delivers meals to about 350 elderly people with mobility difficulties.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Seoul, attended the Jeollanam-do agricultural and marine products direct market held at Junggye Neighborhood Park at 3 p.m. on the 29th.
The direct market held on the 28th and 29th was organized to support farmers struggling due to a sharp decline in consumption caused by COVID-19 and to provide fresh and safe food to residents.
At the market, 38 sales booths were set up to sell excellent agricultural and marine products from Jeollanam-do at prices lower than the market price. Major items included skate, salted seafood, dried yellow corvina, eel, processed foods, honey, sword bean, sesame oil, and mositteok (a type of rice cake).
Separate booths for tasting, resting, and promotion were prepared to facilitate interaction between residents and merchants. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the spacing between display stands was adjusted, and attendees were guided to comply with quarantine rules within the event venue.
Additionally, the district plans to hold direct markets in Gangwon in August, and in Goheung and Chungbuk in November to introduce local specialties from across the country to residents.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu said, “We organized this event so that residents worried about rising prices can purchase safe and fresh food directly from production areas,” and added, “We ask for your continued interest in the upcoming direct markets.”
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, saw off participants departing for the ‘Family Camp for People with Developmental Disabilities’ at 10 a.m. on the 29th, exchanging greetings.
The family camp, hosted by the Mapo Disabled Comprehensive Welfare Center (Director Kim Myeong-gyu), will be held for one night and two days in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do.
The 40 participants, including people with developmental disabilities and their families, will have a time to recharge through activities such as ▲stargazing at Byeolmaru Observatory ▲family forest experience ▲woodcraft experience ▲family recreation.
