Lee Chang-yong, Governor of the Bank of Korea, reported assets worth 4,906,680,000 KRW. This is the second highest amount among the 54 individuals who disclosed their assets this time.
According to the 'Status of Extraordinary Asset Disclosures in July 2022' released by the Government Ethics Committee for Public Officials on the 29th, Governor Lee reported a total of 4,906,680,000 KRW in assets under the names of himself, his spouse, mother, eldest son, and second daughter. The eldest daughter refused to disclose her assets citing independent livelihood reasons.
Among Governor Lee's assets, buildings included a commercial building in Hwajidong, Nonsan-gun, Chungnam under his name (130,810,000 KRW), an apartment in Yeoksam Raemian, Gangnam-gu, Seoul under his spouse's name (1,474,000,000 KRW), and a leasehold right for an officetel in Songpa I-Park, Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul (30,000,000 KRW), totaling 1,634,810,000 KRW.
He reported land assets worth 1,185,740,000 KRW, including forest land and rivers located in Goa-eup, Gumi-si, Gyeongbuk.
Deposits amounted to 2,126,660,000 KRW. Specifically, he held 1,131,430,000 KRW, his spouse 339,390,000 KRW, his mother 545,850,000 KRW, his eldest son 72,080,000 KRW, and his second daughter 37,890,000 KRW. Additionally, there were private bonds under his spouse's name worth 99,040,000 KRW and customized compound interest bonds under his second daughter's name worth 20,950,000 KRW.
As for debts, Governor Lee reported private debts of 60,000,000 KRW and building lease debts including a rental deposit in Hwajidong, Nonsan-si, Chungnam totaling 80,000,000 KRW. His second daughter reported private debts of 49,520,000 KRW.
He reported an annual income of about 35 million KRW from co-authoring works such as "Principles of Economics" with Professor Lee Joon-gu of Seoul National University’s Department of Economics. This includes 22.2 million KRW from "Principles of Economics," 2.92 million KRW from exercises and answers for "Principles of Economics," 9.9 million KRW from "Introduction to Economics," and 840,000 KRW from exercises and answers for "Introduction to Economics." These books are considered essential reading for economics students.
The Government Ethics Committee for Public Officials published the asset registration details of 54 high-ranking officials who were appointed or retired in April in the official gazette on this day. Among them, the wealthiest high-ranking official was already Auditor Lee Mi-hyun of the Board of Audit and Inspection, with assets totaling approximately 10,961,000,000 KRW. Governor Lee was the second wealthiest after Auditor Lee.
