[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Iran, which is negotiating nuclear talks with the West, positively evaluated the European Union (EU)'s compromise proposal and urged the United States to make a decision.
According to the Iranian government on the 28th (local time), Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated in a phone call with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the day before, "Iran welcomes the efforts for diplomacy and negotiation" regarding the compromise proposal.
Minister Amir-Abdollahian asserted, "There is no doubt that Iran wants a strong and sustainable agreement," and "Iran has shown sincerity and goodwill from the beginning of the negotiations."
He emphasized to the United States, "If the U.S. faces reality and acts accordingly, a good agreement will be reached in a short time."
High Representative Borrell said that Iran has shown positive and serious intentions so far, and now it is time to produce results in the negotiations.
In an op-ed for the British newspaper Financial Times on the 26th, Borrell revealed that he proposed a compromise plan to restore the stalled Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA).
He concluded that "the room for compromise is running out," and appealed for a decision, saying, "Although the compromise plan is not perfect, it covers all the necessary issues for concluding the negotiations and contains the hard-won achievements so far."
