[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is set to actively promote preventive activities to prevent elevator safety accidents and ensure user safety.
Nam-gu announced on the 28th, "As accidents caused by user negligence such as finger entrapment in elevators and slipping on moving walkways and escalators occur continuously every year, we will carry out preventive activities to spread elevator safety culture until the end of August."
According to Nam-gu, there are a total of 3,174 elevators in the district, with 3,120 currently in operation.
By usage, passenger elevators account for the majority with 3,013 units, and there are 60 freight elevators. Additionally, 36 moving walkways and escalators and 11 wheelchair lifts are in operation.
With so many elevators operating in the district, Nam-gu plans to distribute elevator safety accident prevention stickers and USBs containing videos to apartment complexes, multi-use facilities, and public institutions to prevent accidents.
The safety accident prevention stickers were produced in four types: finger entrapment caution, emergency communication device guidance, emergency key direction guidance, and others.
Furthermore, to spread elevator safety culture and build community consensus on safety accidents, Nam-gu held an "Elevator User Safety Accident Prevention Education" session on the 22nd at the 8th-floor conference room of the district office, providing education on elevator structure-centered accident cases, response methods, and user safety rules.
About 70 people attended the education session, including safety security officers and safety monitor volunteers who inspect daily safety risk factors throughout the district, as well as general residents.
