[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) will operate a COVID-19 administrative information center consultation hotline starting August 1. This is to respond quickly and systematically to residents' inquiries amid the increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases.

The main consultation phone number for the administrative information center is 1533-0561. It is available daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. without holidays. Consultation covers all COVID-19 related matters including administrative issues related to home treatment, operation of screening clinics, and self-quarantine guidance.

For emergency situations occurring from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day, consultations can be received at the Seoul 24-hour Home Treatment Medical Consultation Center (Hyemin Hospital).

A district official stated, "Currently, 95% of COVID-19 confirmed patients are undergoing home treatment," adding, "We will do our utmost to operate the consultation center so that residents can spend their home treatment period with peace of mind."

The district has established the administrative information center in the basement level 1 of the district office health center, deploying a total of 14 staff including 3 members of the health center's home treatment TF team, 1 center manager, and 10 counselors.

From the 29th, a temporary screening clinic will also reopen. It is located at Hannam-dong Public Parking Lot (224-19 Itaewon-ro). Operating hours are weekdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., with no operation from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for disinfection.

The currently operating Yongsan-gu Health Center screening clinic starts work daily at 9 a.m. without holidays. It closes at 6 p.m. on weekdays (closed from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.), and at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Registration must be done at least 30 minutes before closing time.

The screening clinic is available to priority testing groups such as high-risk individuals. Others should visit respiratory patient treatment centers.

The district has designated 38 respiratory patient treatment centers within the area capable of COVID-19 diagnosis, face-to-face treatment, and prescription of therapeutics, and posted their locations and contact information on the district health center website.

Yongsan-gu Mayor Park Hee-young said, "The first summer vacation without social distancing has begun," adding, "We will thoroughly manage quarantine tasks such as vaccination, testing, and consultation in preparation for a COVID-19 resurgence."

The district has abruptly canceled the opening of the children's water play areas at Hyochang and Eungbong Parks, which were planned to operate from the 29th to August 11, and is focusing on quarantine efforts such as encouraging the 4th vaccination for those aged 50 and over and expanding respiratory patient treatment centers for COVID-19 home treatment patients.

On the 28th, Yongsan-gu Mayor Park Hee-young visited local homeless facilities including the Dasi-seogi Comprehensive Support Center (municipal), Seoul Station Gosiwon Counseling Center (municipal), and Mannasaem to deliver quarantine supplies and encourage staff. This is in response to the rapid resurgence of COVID-19.

The district distributed 1,500 masks to the Dasi-seogi Comprehensive Support Center, 440 protective suits for laundry support for Gosiwon residents at the Seoul Station Gosiwon Counseling Center, and 900 masks along with 200 rapid antigen test kits to Mannasaem, a temporary shelter for the homeless, to be used for preventing infectious diseases among street homeless and Gosiwon residents.

Mayor Park Hee-young said, "I thank those who work hard on-site to protect the homeless and Gosiwon residents despite the difficult conditions caused by the spread of COVID-19 and heatwaves," adding, "Safety is the most important, so we will carefully ensure that vulnerable groups are not left in quarantine blind spots."

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will start a ‘Personal Information Document Shredding Service’ at 17 community service centers from the 28th to prevent residents’ personal information leakage and misuse.

There are times when documents containing personal information such as certificates issued long ago and credit card statements accumulate. Most people tear them up before disposal, but it can still feel uneasy, and when the volume is large, even that can be troublesome.

The ‘Personal Information Document Shredding’ service allows residents to directly shred documents containing personal information using shredders installed at community service centers.

Anyone can visit their local community service center and safely shred documents containing personal information using shredders installed exclusively for residents. Seongdong-gu has decided to fully implement this service as crimes caused by personal information leakage are increasing daily, and residents’ concerns are growing accordingly.

Moreover, since February, the district has been the first autonomous district in Seoul to offer a service that destroys digital storage media such as hard drives and USBs of PCs and laptops using specialized equipment, leading efforts in personal information security and gaining residents’ positive responses.

Over approximately five months, about 38 destruction services have been provided, destroying a total of 205 storage media. The residual materials after destruction are handed over to the SR Center, a resource circulation facility operated by Seoul City, to participate in resource recycling as metal resources.

Those wishing to use the ‘Digital Storage Media Destruction Service’ can apply through the district office website or bring their ID and storage media to the Information and Communication Division on the 4th floor of the district office for on-site registration.

Seongdong-gu Mayor Jung Won-oh said, “Many residents worry about damage caused by personal information leakage when disposing of documents containing personal information, so we have implemented this ‘Personal Information Document Shredding Service,’” adding, “We will continue to implement various life-centered administrative services to resolve even small inconveniences in residents’ daily lives.”

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is recruiting resident representatives for the ‘Resource Circulation Club’ to lead the future of a resource-circulating urban Gwanak.

The ‘Resource Circulation Club’ is a resident-led project where residents interested in recycling form clubs by neighborhood, promote recycling-related news, and participate in various projects, serving as a communication channel for resource circulation.

The district has been promoting various recycling activation projects such as the ‘Transparent PET Bottle and Waste Vinyl Separate Collection Day System’ and the ‘Transparent PET Bottle Reward System’ in preparation for the ban on direct landfill of metropolitan area landfill site household waste in 2026.

Accordingly, the district plans to actively promote and implement the ‘Transparent PET Bottle Reward System’ centered on the ‘Resource Circulation Club.’ This project exchanges residents’ brought-in recyclable transparent PET bottles for volume-based waste bags. It started last year in Nangok-dong and has been promoted in Sinsa-dong and Nanhyang-dong with great response. From October, it will gradually expand to the entire district to encourage residents to actively participate in resource circulation through recycling.

Any resident interested in recycling and resource circulation and able to participate in club activities can apply by submitting to their local community service center by August 12. For inquiries, contact the Gwanak-gu Office Cleaning Administration Division.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “In the 8th term of the elected government, we will continue to aim for a resource-circulating city Gwanak and do our best to activate recycling and reduce waste,” adding, “We hope residents actively participate in recycling and waste separation in daily life.”

Gangnam-gu (Mayor Cho Sung-myung) will recruit 40 learning groups for the second half of the year from July 29 to August 12 for the ‘Selfree Learning Program,’ which supports instructor fees up to 500,000 KRW when seven or more people form a study group.

‘Selfree’ is a compound of ‘self’ and ‘free.’ The Selfree Learning Program is a unique Gangnam-gu educational service that supports instructor fees for groups voluntarily gathering to study, aiming to develop local human resources and foster a learning culture in daily life.

At least 70% of the group members must be Gangnam-gu residents. All fields except prohibited areas (commercial, religious, political) and restricted areas (recreational sports, curriculum support) are supported.

The operation period is from September to November. Selected groups must conduct learning activities for 1 to 2 hours a day at least six times during this period. If attendance falls below 50% for three consecutive sessions, the group will be automatically excluded from support.

Applicants can apply via email or mail, and results will be individually notified in August. For details, refer to the Gangnam Lifelong Learning website or contact the Gangnam-gu Office Education Support Division.

Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Sung-myung said, “There have been many positive evaluations that the Selfree Learning Program helped participants develop expertise and grow personally,” adding, “We will continue to support residents so they can invite professional instructors and lead self-directed learning without time and place constraints.”
