[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Japan's new COVID-19 cases have approached 210,000, marking the highest number ever recorded.
According to Japan's NHK broadcast, as of 6 PM, the total number of new COVID-19 cases across Japan was counted at 209,694. This surpassed the previous record of 200,930 set on the 23rd, breaking it within four days.
The seven-day average (from the 20th to the 26th) of daily new cases also nearly doubled to 176,322 compared to 93,521 recorded a week earlier.
The number of deaths due to COVID-19 was 129, the highest in the past four months. The number of severe cases stood at 271.
The Japanese government is not imposing any behavioral restrictions in response to the spread of COVID-19, considering that the increase in deaths and severe cases is smaller compared to previous surges.
