[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A car plunged into the sea off the coast of Sokcho, Gangwon Province, resulting in the death of a driver in his 40s.
According to the Sokcho Coast Guard on the 27th, at around 1:33 a.m. that day, the Coast Guard rescue team was dispatched to the scene after receiving a report that a vehicle had fallen into the sea within Cheongcho Port in Sokcho City, Gangwon Province.
The Coast Guard conducted an underwater search and found the submerged car. They rescued A (49), who was unable to escape from inside the vehicle, and performed emergency measures including CPR, but A ultimately passed away.
The Coast Guard confirmed that there were no other victims besides A, and is investigating the cause of the accident by salvaging the vehicle and reviewing nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
