Sancheong Donguibogam Village to Host Regular Outdoor Theater Performances Play of Filial Piety at Geukdan Keundeul Sancheong Donguibogam Village

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The weekend regular Madanggeuk (traditional Korean courtyard play) performances, which brought great laughter to visitors to Sancheong Donguibogam Village in Gyeongnam every weekend, will be held in the evening during the summer.

On the 27th, Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced that from the 29th to August 20th, Madanggeuk performances by the theater company Keundeul will be held every Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the lawn square of Sancheong Donguibogam Village.

Keundeul, a Madanggeuk specialized performing arts group, has been holding free weekend Madanggeuk performances since May.

During the summer, to avoid the heat, the performance time has been moved from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. to continue the shows. Performances may change depending on weather and local conditions.

On the 29th and 30th, the Donguibogam healing play ‘Jjillekkot’ will be performed, followed by the Madanggeuk ‘Ojakgyo Arirang’ on August 5th and 6th. On August 19th and 20th, the Madanggeuk ‘Hyojajeon’ will be staged.

In particular, the summer performances will feature the premiere of ‘Jjillekkot,’ an original play by the theater company Keundeul. It is expected to bring freshness even to audiences who have frequently attended Keundeul’s performances.

‘Jjillekkot,’ produced with the support of the Sancheong-gun New Vitality Plus Project Promotion Team, incorporates the wisdom and life philosophy of Donguibogam as told by the five organs of the human body (liver, heart, spleen, lungs, kidneys), the protagonist Jeong Gwirae, and Jeong Gwirae’s five siblings.

A county official said, “With the peak summer vacation season underway, we moved the performance time to the evening to provide entertainment for visitors from all over the country who come to Sancheong, while also creating a comfortable viewing environment for local residents. Since it began in 2017, the Donguibogam Village regular Madanggeuk performances, now in their seventh year, have become a signature program of Donguibogam Village with diverse performances featuring Sancheong’s unique stories.”
