September 26, 9 PM: 97,617 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed... [Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] As of 9 PM on the 26th, nearly 100,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.


According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, 97,617 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is the highest count since April 19 (107,923 cases) based on the 9 PM tally. It is 3,404 cases more than the previous day's count at the same time (94,213 cases). Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new cases announced on the 27th is expected to exceed 100,000. Of these, 52,528 cases (53.8%) were from the metropolitan area, and 40,589 cases (46.2%) were from non-metropolitan areas.


By region, the cases are as follows: Gyeonggi 27,170, Seoul 20,083, Gyeongnam 5,481, Incheon 5,275, Gyeongbuk 4,969, Chungnam 4,166, Daegu 3,650, Jeonbuk 3,371, Gangwon 3,303, Chungbuk 3,240, Busan 2,998, Gwangju 2,880, Daejeon 2,846, Ulsan 2,674, Jeonnam 2,637, Jeju 2,042, and Sejong 832.


The daily new confirmed cases for the week from the 20th to this day were 76,379 → 71,146 → 68,603 → 68,548 → 65,428 → 35,833 → 99,327, respectively.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) maintained the COVID-19 risk level as "moderate" on this day, stating that "the increasing trend is expected to continue for about 2 to 3 weeks."
