[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it will hold a public contest for the ‘8 Treasures (寶物) Search’ to promote the charm of Dong-gu in order to create a ‘city you want to visit’ and a ‘stay-type cultural tourism city’ with the launch of the 8th term of the civilian government.
The ‘8 Treasures (寶物) Search’ aims to select eight representative historical and cultural resources unique to Dong-gu, including nature, people, places, food, and tourism products, and through this, to discover cultural tourism content that can attract not only citizens of Gwangju but also domestic and international tourists.
On the 25th, Dong-gu held the first collaborative meeting with related departments such as the Culture and Tourism Division, Humanities City Policy Division, and Job Economy Division to listen to each department’s opinions on the candidate groups for the 8 treasures (寶), the selection process, and utilization plans.
The candidate groups for the 8 treasures (寶) mentioned at the meeting included ▲ Chungjang Festival ▲ Dongmyeong-dong Cafe Street ▲ Geumnam-ro Night View ▲ Dong-gu Humanities Academy ▲ Dong-gu Humanities Walking Trail ▲ Chungjang-ro Alley Tour.
Dong-gu plans to select 16 candidate groups for the 8 treasures (寶) through a survey of employees and a second collaborative meeting, and then finalize the ‘8 Treasures’ through a public vote using the mobile app ‘Dong-gu Doodream.’
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “Dong-gu possesses numerous tangible and intangible historical and cultural resources such as the National Asian Culture Complex, 5·18 Democracy Square, and Chungjang-ro.” He added, “Through this contest, we will discover cultural tourism content that can represent Dong-gu, use it as a symbol of Dong-gu, and actively utilize it in various fields such as culture, tourism, and humanities.”
