On the 25th, Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited Gimpo Airport and said, "Please make every effort to ensure aviation safety in preparation for the surge in travel demand during the summer vacation season and the increase in international flights."
The minister's visit to Gimpo Airport was conducted to inspect the current status of aviation safety management in preparation for the increase in flights during the summer peak season.
He urged, "Since many aircraft have been grounded for a long time during the pandemic, please deploy aircraft whose performance has been confirmed through thorough pre-inspections to prevent malfunctions and diversions at the source."
Minister Won also received a report on the progress of the investigation into the cause of a recent case where a flight returned and landed due to an engine defect during flight.
He instructed, "Airlines should actively cooperate with the joint investigation by the government and manufacturers, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport safety inspectors should conduct a meticulous investigation to accurately identify the cause and establish measures to prevent recurrence."
Following this, Minister Won visited the Gimpo Airport apron to encourage flight and cabin crew as well as aircraft maintenance technicians preparing for flights.
At the site, Minister Won said, "If aviation workers become fatigued and lose concentration, passenger safety is also threatened," and urged, "Please pay special attention to implementing heatwave countermeasures such as establishing rest areas and air conditioning facilities."
