[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeonnam Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 25th that it will accept applications for the ‘Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Production Incentive Support Project,’ which aims to compensate the income of eco-friendly practicing farms, starting from the 27th.
The project targets farmers or agricultural corporations cultivating certified plots within Hwasun-gun. Applications can be submitted to the administrative welfare centers of the towns and townships based on the location of the farmland by the 16th of next month.
Supported items are limited to rice, fruit trees, vegetables, and food crops. Farms with detected residual pesticides, cultivators of farmland outside the jurisdiction, and farms with certification cancellations are excluded from support.
The payment rates differ by certification level and crop to diversify supported items: for organic certification, 350,000 KRW per hectare for rice, 600,000 KRW for food crops, and 1,000,000 KRW for fruit trees and vegetables; for pesticide-free certification, 200,000 KRW per hectare for rice, 400,000 KRW for food crops, and 800,000 KRW for fruit trees and vegetables.
Farms applying for the project can receive the production incentive in December this year after verification of eligibility, provided they maintain certification at the time of payment by practicing eco-friendly farming methods and renewing certification.
A county official stated, “We will do our best to discover various support measures for farmers practicing eco-friendly agriculture to expand and foster eco-friendly farming,” and added, “We ask for active participation in the production of eco-friendly agricultural products.”
