[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Jeju Air is expanding its international flight routes by resuming flights and significantly increasing daily operations.
Jeju Air announced on the 25th that starting next month, it will begin daily flights on the Incheon~Narita and Osaka routes, operating a total of 1,004 international flights across 25 routes throughout August. This represents an increase of approximately 329% compared to June and about 44% compared to July.
Flight schedules to popular destinations such as Japan’s Narita and Osaka, the Philippines’ Manila, Cebu, Bohol, Clark, Vietnam’s Da Nang, Thailand’s Bangkok (operating twice daily), Guam, and Saipan will be expanded to daily operations. The company explained that the number of flights on routes that operated only 2 to 3 times a week after COVID-19 has significantly increased.
Looking at the number of flights by route, Southeast Asian routes lead with 654 flights. Oceania routes such as Guam and Saipan have 160 flights, Japanese routes 140 flights, the newly launched Mongolian route in June 34 flights, and Chinese routes 10 flights. International flights departing from Muan International Airport, including Incheon~Ho Chi Minh and Muan~Bangkok/Da Nang, will also start anew after COVID-19.
Additionally, Jeju Air will operate four round-trip charter flights on the Incheon~Kyrgyzstan Bishkek route once a week from today until the 16th of next month. Bishkek, the capital and largest city of Kyrgyzstan located in Central Asia, is the first city Jeju Air is serving. The flight distance between Incheon and Bishkek is approximately 5,200 km, with a flight time of about 7 hours, making it longer than Jeju Air’s current longest route, Busan~Singapore.
A Jeju Air official said, “With the expansion of daily flight schedules to popular vacation destinations, travelers planning summer vacations will have a wider range of options and scheduling flexibility. We plan to continuously increase international flights to capture overseas travel demand.”
