Democratic Party Support Rate Surpasses People Power Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating for his administration stabilized in the low 30% range. While the decline in the administration's performance evaluation has halted, negative evaluations slightly increased. The Democratic Party, which saw its approval ratings drop after the local election defeat, surpassed the People Power Party in party support ratings.
According to a public opinion poll conducted by the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) commissioned by TBS (from the 22nd to 23rd, targeting 1,002 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide, using wireless ARS method), President Yoon's positive evaluation of his administration was 32.2%, while the negative evaluation was 64.5%. Positive evaluations rose by 0.2 percentage points and negative evaluations by 0.8 percentage points compared to last week's survey.
Since peaking at 56.3% in the May 27-28 survey, President Yoon's approval rating had been steadily declining but has now stopped falling. However, the gap widened to 32.3 percentage points as the increase in negative evaluations was larger than the rise in positive evaluations compared to last week's survey.
Regarding the hiring of acquaintances' children from the ruling party's core circle at the Presidential Office, 68.1% of respondents considered it inappropriate, far exceeding the 22.3% who thought it was appropriate.
In party support ratings, the Democratic Party recorded 41.9%, the People Power Party 32.1%, and the Justice Party 4.6%. While the People Power Party's support decreased by 2.4 percentage points, the Democratic Party's support rose by 9%, putting the Democratic Party ahead.
In the Democratic Party's next party leader candidate support, Representative Lee Jae-myung ranked first with 42.7%, followed by Representative Park Yong-jin (14.0%), Representative Park Joo-min (4.7%), Representative Seol Hoon (4.2%), Representative Kim Min-seok (3.6%), Representative Kang Hoon-sik (1.7%), Representative Kang Byung-won (1.4%), and former Supreme Council member Lee Dong-hak (1.1%).
The margin of error for this poll is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For detailed survey outlines and results, please refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
