[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Last month, as an early heatwave arrived, consumer consultations related to air conditioners significantly increased.
On the 25th, the Korea Consumer Agency and the Korea Consumer Organization Council analyzed consumer consultations received at the 1372 Consumer Consultation Center using a big data system. The items with the highest increase rate in consultations compared to the previous month were air conditioners (107.0%), followed by internet education services (51.0%) and air passenger transport services (28.3%).
In the case of air conditioner consultations, there was an increase in inquiries about delays in after-sales service requests due to reduced cooling capacity. For internet education services, many consultations involved questions about refund methods when companies closed down, and for air passenger transport services, complaints increased due to excessive penalties demanded by operators when flight tickets were canceled.
Compared to June, the consultation increase rates were highest for indemnity insurance (280.9%), air passenger transport services (178.0%), and new-type gift certificates (56.2%). Indemnity insurance consultations increased due to delays in insurance payments after cataract surgery, and many inquiries about new-type gift certificates involved whether the validity period of expired mobile gift certificates could be extended.
