[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] Jeong Jeom-sik, member of the National Assembly for Tongyeong-si and Goseong-gun, has become the new chairman of the People Power Party's Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee.


The People Power Party's Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee held its 2nd Executive Committee meeting on the afternoon of the 22nd to elect the provincial party chairman.


The meeting was attended by Provincial Party Chairman Lee Dal-gon, candidate for Provincial Party Chairman Jeong Jeom-sik, National Assembly member Ha Young-je, and Kim Seong-woo, party committee chairman for Gimhae-si Eul.


Also present were Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, Tongyeong Mayor Cheon Young-gi, Goseong County Governor Lee Sang-geun, Sacheon Mayor Park Dong-sik, Miryang Mayor Park Il-ho, Haman County Governor Jo Geun-je, Changnyeong County Governor Kim Bu-young, Geoje Mayor Park Jong-woo, Gyeongnam Provincial Council Vice Chairmen Choi Hak-beom and Kang Yong-beom, and Gyeongnam Provincial Council Floor Leader Jo Young-je.


The provincial party committee stated that, according to party regulations allowing the election of the provincial party chairman at the executive committee meeting in the case of a single candidate, the agenda to elect candidate Jeong as the new Gyeongnam Provincial Party Chairman was submitted and unanimously approved by the executive committee members.


Chairman Jeong said, “I feel a heavy responsibility as I take on this important role during a critical time,” adding, “At a time when support for the new government and the party is declining together, we must return to our original intentions with a humble attitude, focusing solely on the people and residents.”


He continued, “By listening carefully to the voices of the people and residents, reflecting public opinion, and preparing and implementing improvement measures on various issues, we will be able to regain the trust and support of the people,” and expressed his commitment, saying, “I will do my best as chairman to make Gyeongnam leap forward again, to build a more trusted People Power Party, and to ensure residents live well together.”


According to the provincial party committee, Chairman Jeong is expected to begin a one-year term after receiving approval from the Central Party Supreme Council.
