[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Kwangdong Pharmaceutical announced on the 22nd that it has signed a domestic sales contract for the probiotic brand 'Culturelle' with i-Health, a subsidiary of the global company DSM.
Under this contract, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical will exclusively sell six types of 'Culturelle' containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG probiotics) in South Korea.
Culturelle is a health functional food that has ranked number one in global sales in the probiotics sector for six consecutive years since 2016 (based on NicholasHall&Company, DB6 global CHC sales). It helps promote the growth of beneficial bacteria, suppress harmful bacteria, support smooth bowel movements, and improve intestinal health. It is characterized by containing LGG probiotics, which have strong survivability and adhesion.
LGG probiotics are strains that survive stomach acid and bile acids to reach the intestines. They are the most extensively researched probiotic strains worldwide, with safety confirmed through over 1,000 papers and more than 200 human clinical trials.
The products sold by Kwangdong Pharmaceutical include six types such as 'Culturelle Digestive Health' and 'Culturelle Kids Packets.' 'Culturelle Digestive Health' is an adult product containing 10 billion CFU (colony-forming units) of probiotics per day, the maximum daily recommended intake recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, fulfilling the daily probiotic intake with just one capsule. 'Culturelle Kids Packets' are designed for children aged one and older, featuring a sweet taste and convenience of consumption without water.
A Kwangdong Pharmaceutical official stated, “We have expanded our premium probiotic lineup to meet consumer demand for intestinal health and probiotic intake,” adding, “Culturelle, available in various forms such as capsules, powders, and tablets, can be easily consumed by anyone regardless of gender or age.”
