[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Wando Education Love Council announced on the 21st that it held a special invited lecture titled "Overcoming Population Extinction: A Great Transformation in Wando Education."

The event took place on the 19th in the main conference room of the Wando Office of Education, attended by about 40 people including Seo Jang-pil, Superintendent of Wando Education, Jo Young-sik, Vice Chairman of the Wando County Council, parents, and local residents. It was held to create an educational ecosystem where schools and villages coexist harmoniously.

In particular, it was organized to discuss and implement educational policies involving county residents based on reflections on the roles of schools and communities in future society.

Superintendent Kim Dae-jung sent a congratulatory message on the day, stating, "The risk of local population extinction is approaching moment by moment, and the speed is even faster in island regions like Wando," adding, "We will open a solid Jeonnam education where children are happy, and a future of decentralization and balance through the great transformation of Jeonnam education."

Former Gokseong Superintendent of Education Heo Seong-gyun, invited as a guest lecturer, gave a lecture on the theme "Changes in the World and the Transformation of Wando Education," followed by a Q&A session with the attendees.

Chairman Yang Hee-moon stated, "Wando is classified as a population extinction area, with the number of students rapidly decreasing, and some schools are facing closure," adding, "Cooperation between the Office of Education and local governments is urgently needed to attract population inflow."

He continued, "The Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation of Wando County has supported education so far, but more active support is necessary for efficiency," and added, "This event was held to develop Wando education in cooperation with the Office of Education and local governments."

The Wando Education Love Council was established in June last year by about 40 people including education-related organizations and parents in Wando to seek the core direction of Wando's future education and the development of regional education.
