[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics announced on the 21st that it will participate in the '2022 International Internet of Things (IoT)·Home Appliances·Robotics' Expo to showcase solutions such as 'SmartThings Home Life.' SmartThings is a service that connects Samsung Electronics products and services with external devices to provide a device connection experience that allows customers to complete their own lifestyle.
At the expo held for three days from today until the 23rd at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju Metropolitan City, Samsung Electronics will showcase six major services including the 'SmartThings Energy' zone. The exhibition focuses on everyday solutions centered around 'SmartThings Home Life.' This expo, now in its 14th edition, features participation from over 300 companies from 30 countries worldwide and more than 25,000 attendees.
Samsung Electronics' SmartThings Home Life is a home appliance system that allows control and management of six major services?energy, air care, pet care, cooking, clothing care, and home care?all at once through the SmartThings application. Samsung Electronics has organized an exhibition zone where various products, including Bespoke home appliances, are linked with SmartThings Home Life to provide a customized experience of the six services.
According to Samsung Electronics, the 'SmartThings Energy' zone attracted visitors' attention, reflecting a strong interest in energy saving. This service receives power usage data from Korea Electric Power Corporation and allows users to check not only the connected home appliances but also the total household power consumption and estimated electricity bills. It helps customers use multiple products more efficiently.
In particular, this exhibition is designed to allow visitors to see the entire process of energy production, storage, and consumption at a glance by linking with a solar power system. When excess energy is produced by the solar panels, it is used to preheat the water tank, ensuring sufficient utilization of energy. If energy is insufficient, the 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Saving Mode' automatically switches home appliances to power-saving mode.
In the 'SmartThings Clothing Care' zone, optimal care solutions are introduced considering clothing care appliances, users' lifestyles, and fabric materials. For example, users who enjoy golf can set and save 'My Golf Care' in advance, which automatically sends courses for golf wear and golf shoes to the washing machine, dryer, and shoe dresser for use.
In the 'SmartThings Cooking' zone, a kitchen solution is showcased that allows users to check recipes using ingredients stored in the 'Bespoke Family Hub' refrigerator. Through demonstrations of optimal control of kitchen appliances such as induction cooktops, hoods, and dishwashers, it enables users to prepare and finish meals all at once. Visitors can also experience features that enhance the taste and style of food, such as recommending wines that pair well with plating methods.
Additionally, exhibition spaces are provided to experience services such as 'SmartThings Air Care,' which monitors and manages air quality in various rooms of the house, and 'SmartThings Pet Care,' which remotely controls devices to check the condition of pets left alone at home and create a comfortable environment.
Park Chan-woo, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said, "Through SmartThings Home Life, we have enhanced the value of Samsung Electronics' differentiated AI and IoT functions throughout the home," adding, "We will continue to discover various services closely connected to consumers' daily lives and expand our role as an integrated home appliance solution."
