[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will receive the Presidential Citation in the disaster management evaluation.
Yongin City announced on the 21st that it was selected as an excellent institution in the '2022 Disaster Management Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving the Presidential Citation for the third time following 2018 and 2019.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been conducting an annual disaster management evaluation since 2005 to assess the capabilities of 335 disaster management responsible institutions nationwide, including public institutions and local governments, in accordance with the 'Disaster and Safety Management Basic Act.'
In this evaluation, the city received high marks for focusing on disaster prevention by preparing for various natural disasters such as heavy rain, typhoons, heatwaves, and heavy snow despite the difficulties caused by COVID-19, and for regularly inspecting disaster-vulnerable areas.
Additionally, to establish a rapid and professional response system for various disaster situations, the city upgraded its control room and operated disaster video surveillance systems, emergency broadcast systems, rain gauges, and snow gauges in an integrated manner, enabling agile responses to real-time weather changes, which earned favorable evaluations.
A city official stated, "By receiving the Presidential Citation three times in the disaster management evaluations over the past five years, we have solidified our status as one of the safest cities nationwide," adding, "We will continue to do our best in disaster management so that citizens can live with peace of mind."
