Say "Chulgeungil Mundaap" Instead of "Doorstepping"

'Meta Fashion' Alternative Term Recommended as 'Virtual World Fashion'

Say "Chulgeungil Mundaap" Instead of "Doorstepping"

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 1st that 'doorstepping' be replaced with the Korean terms 'chulgeungil mundaap' (출근길 문답) or 'yaksik mundaap' (약식 문답). They also suggested 'gasang segye paesyeon' (가상 세계 패션) as the Korean alternative for 'meta fashion.'

Doorstepping refers to a brief press conference held in a public place such as outside a home or at a building entrance, where reporters wait for a specific person. At the new word meeting held on the 6th, the Ministry and the Institute reviewed the appropriateness and usability of the terms and decided on 'chulgeungil mundaap' and 'yaksik mundaap' as replacements. The selection also reflected survey results. In a public acceptance survey conducted from the 8th to the 14th of last month with about 2,000 participants, over 70% of respondents answered that the terms were appropriate. Additionally, 74.2% agreed on the necessity of Korean alternatives.

Meta fashion refers to digital fashion encompassing avatars' skin, clothes, shoes, and accessories appearing in extended virtual worlds. Due to limitations in texture and color, items that are difficult or impossible to see or realize in reality can be implemented as digital images or videos. The chosen appropriate Korean term is 'gasang segye paesyeon' (가상 세계 패션).

The new word meeting is a committee that provides Korean alternatives that are easy for the general public to understand before difficult foreign neologisms spread. Experts from various fields such as Korean language, foreign languages, education, publicity and publishing, information and communication, and media participate. The Ministry and the Institute plan to continuously promote the proactive use of these alternatives by government ministries and media outlets.
