[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The Jeonnong district in Dongdaemun-gu, near Cheongnyangni Station on Seoul Subway Line 1, is set to resolve local conflicts including those involving churches and commence full-scale redevelopment projects.

On the 19th, Seoul City held the 5th Urban Redevelopment Committee meeting and conditionally approved the amendment plan for the redevelopment promotion plan of the Jeonnong district within the Cheongnyangni Redevelopment Promotion Zone, the city announced on the 20th.

This district, located around 494 Jeonnong-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, is situated 500 meters from Cheongnyangni Station on Line 1. Although the promotion plan was decided last year, the final plan had been delayed due to conflicts over the relocation of the community center site and religious facilities.

In response, the city and the autonomous district facilitated an agreement between the association and the church through the Dongdaemun District Dispute Mediation Committee, devising solutions such as relocating religious facilities in the amendment plan. The plan includes incorporating the Jeonnong 1-dong Community Center site within the district to build religious facilities there, while the community center will be established on the 1st and 2nd floors of a building along Seoul City University Road and donated to the city. The city arranged the community center and Our Neighborhood Care Center to be conveniently accessible to both residents and local community members by positioning them near the northern park and Seoul City University Road.

With the approval of this review, the Jeonnong district will have a total of 4 buildings, with a maximum height of 48 floors, comprising 1,122 households (including 190 public housing units).

Kim Seongbo, Director of the Housing Policy Office, stated, "This is a case where Seoul City and the autonomous district actively acted as mediators to resolve conflicts among residents that arose during the redevelopment process." He added, "The approval of this review will not only increase housing supply but also accelerate the improvement and development of the residential environment around Cheongnyangni."
