[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The extension of Subway Line 3 connecting Hanam Gyosan District, a 3rd phase new town, and Songpa-gu in Seoul, called the 'Songpa-Hanam Line,' has entered the main track.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 19th that the Songpa-Hanam Line metropolitan railway project passed the preliminary feasibility study (PFS) for public institutions conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 18th, and plans to start the basic plan establishment service within this year.
The Songpa-Hanam Line project is a metropolitan railway construction project connecting a total distance of 11.2 km from Ogeum Station, the last station of Seoul Subway Line 3, through Hanam Gyosan New Town, to Hanam City Hall Station on Seoul Subway Line 5. The target opening year is 2030, and the total project cost is estimated at 1.4163 trillion KRW.
Once the Songpa-Hanam Line opens, it is expected to greatly improve metropolitan transportation convenience in the eastern metropolitan area by linking with Seoul Subway Lines 5, 8, and 9, as well as the Great Train Express (GTX) Line A. This project will proceed through a process where Seoul City and Gyeonggi Province establish the basic plan, design, and project plan, which will then be approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee.
Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee, said, "With the confirmation of the Songpa-Hanam Line project, we have begun to actively promote the construction of a major metropolitan railway network connecting the 3rd phase new towns," adding, "We will cooperate with local governments, new town developers, and others to swiftly advance the project to minimize transportation inconveniences for residents of the 3rd phase new towns."
