[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] PCL announced on the 18th that it held an event to donate COVID-19 saliva self-test kits together with the Korea Autism Love Association and the Korean Pediatric Hospital Association at the 2nd Autism Expo held on the 15th and 16th.

The Autism Expo is the first exhibition in Asia to comprehensively provide various information, consultations, products, and services needed for autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays in one place, aiming to present a roadmap for challenges faced at each life stage and future planning.

Kim Yong-jik, president of the Korea Autism Love Association, said, "We are very grateful to CEO Kim So-yeon of PCL for supporting the much-needed COVID-19 saliva test kits," adding, "Especially at a time when COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing, the kits were distributed to children with autism and developmental disabilities participating in this expo and were used very effectively."

Park Yang-dong, president of the Korean Pediatric Hospital Association, stated, "The PCL saliva diagnostic kit is the only self and rapid antigen kit clinically tested on children. Considering the characteristics of children, frequent use of swabs caused nasal injuries, and children moving and avoiding the test led to swabs breaking and requiring removal procedures, causing many difficulties. By using saliva for testing, this kit will be very useful for children and adolescents during the current resurgence of COVID-19." He also added, "The Korean Pediatric Hospital Association will work with PCL to establish standards for pediatric use in medical devices and strive to develop medical devices that ensure the safety of children and disabled individuals in clinical settings."

CEO Kim So-yeon, who attended the expo, explained, "The COVID-19 saliva self-test kit developed by our company is the only legally approved kit that has completed clinical trials for those under 18 years old, making it the only kit usable for individuals under 18. It is easy and safe to use, making it especially suitable for children and adolescents with autism or developmental disabilities."

Meanwhile, PCL recently has been developing a digital healthcare platform in collaboration with NHN, and through cooperation with the Korean Pediatric Hospital Association, plans to design a platform for children with developmental disabilities to provide a more systematic solution for managing autism and spectrum disorders.
