Kim Byeongnae, Mayor of Gwangju Nam-gu, Commutes to and from the Dong Office 1-2 Times Monthly

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Kim Byeong-nae, mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will start commuting to and from work at local dong administrative welfare centers once or twice a month beginning on the 19th.

This is to bring the administration closer to the residents and is a move to further strengthen Mayor Kim Byeong-nae’s governance policy, which emphasizes on-site communication.

According to Nam-gu on the 18th, Mayor Kim has been taking bold steps to lower the barriers for resident administration.

Following his campaign pledge to relocate the mayor’s office from the 7th floor of the district office to the 1st floor at the start of the 8th elected term, he has decided to operate a “mobile mayor’s office” at the 17 dong administrative welfare centers in the district to listen closely to residents’ voices and attend to their daily lives.

The reason Mayor Kim is deeply engaging with the 17 dong sites is that the dong administrative welfare centers are the places most closely connected to the lives of the 220,000 residents, and he aims to create a happy Nam-gu by listening to the voices of residents in each area.

The first destination of the mobile mayor’s office will be the Daechon-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 19th.

This area plays a very important role in advancing Nam-gu’s continuous development, as presented in the vision for the 8th elected term, moving from a cultural and educational special zone to an economic-cultural-educational special zone.

On that day, Mayor Kim plans to visit InCell Co., Ltd., an energy company located in the Energy Valley industrial complex that produces lithium batteries and energy storage systems (ESS), to hear firsthand about the company’s operations.

He also plans to visit Ipapneomeo, a residential facility for people with severe disabilities, and homes of elderly residents living alone to directly address their difficulties.

Mayor Kim stated, “I have never stopped efforts to communicate with residents and have frequently listened to their voices on site. Thanks to treating promises to residents as a destiny, I have come this far, and I will continue to show the image of a mayor who keeps promises well and works hard.”
