Surfing Festival, Jet Ski, Kiteboarding, and Windsurfing Championship Successfully Concluded
Various Romantic Events Including Yacht, Skin Scuba, Surfing, Cruise, and Sand Festival Organized

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk, held various marine sports competitions such as windsurfing, kiteboarding, jet skiing, and surfing from July 16 to 17 in connection with the ‘60th Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival,’ widely promoting the charm of Pohang as a marine cultural tourism city to 3 million residents.
The marine sports competition, held in Pohang from July 15 to 18 in conjunction with the Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival, provided various marine leisure experience events to tourists and citizens visiting Pohang, captivating many visitors with diverse attractions and entertainment.
▲ At Yonghan Surfer Beach, known as one of the three major surfing spots famous for its waves, the ‘Surfing Festival’ was held where surfing enthusiasts from across the country competed riding the wind and waves. ▲ At Yeongildae Beach in the city center, the ‘Jet Ski’ event, known as the F-1 of the sea, thrilled spectators as participants cut through the crashing waves creating dazzling sprays.
▲ In front of the Goddess of the Sea at Songdo Beach, the ‘Kiteboarding Competition’ attracted many citizens, reminiscent of Songdo Beach’s former glory. ▲ At Hyeongsan River in front of Pohang Sports Complex, the ‘Windsurfing Championship’ was successfully held, allowing participants to enjoy romance as masters of the wind along with the beautiful ambiance of Mulbitmaru.
Participatory experience events such as yachting, skin diving, surfing, cruises, and sand festivals were held. At the Pohang Canal, night kayaking and night pedal boating were operated against the backdrop of POSCO’s night view, allowing couples and families to enjoy romantic waterways of Pohang’s sea and canal.
Choi Muhyung, Director of the Marine Industry Division, said, “Through the hosting of various marine sports competitions and marine leisure experience events linked to this provincial sports festival, we expect to further promote and establish a foundation for the activation of Pohang’s marine leisure cultural tourism.”
