[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] Kwon Seong-dong, Acting Party Leader and Floor Leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 15th that the 9th-grade administrative staff member at the Presidential Office, who has been embroiled in a private recruitment controversy, "was recognized for his capabilities during the presidential campaign and subsequently worked at the Presidential Transition Committee and the Presidential Office."
Earlier, it was revealed that Mr. Woo, the son of the CEO of a telecommunications equipment company based in Gangneung, who has reportedly had a long-standing relationship with President Yoon Seok-yeol, is currently working in the Office of Civil Society Senior Secretary. Kwon took responsibility for recommending Mr. Woo and moved to clarify the situation.
Kwon, whose constituency is in Gangneung, wrote on his social media service (SNS) that "the young man volunteered at my constituency office" and added, "Because he was a diligent young man, I encouraged him to participate in the presidential campaign."
Kwon rebutted, saying, "This young man, who worked day and night for months striving for the presidential victory, became a 9th-grade administrative staff member without tenure. The Democratic Party of Korea, which is launching political attacks based on speculation and exaggeration, is truly unfair."
He continued, "Rather, I want to ask the Democratic Party: Was it fair recruitment to appoint a 25-year-old young man as a Level 1 Secretary at the Blue House? Was that proper governance?" This is interpreted as a remark targeting former Blue House Youth Secretary Park Seong-min, who was appointed as a Level 1 Secretary during the Moon Jae-in administration while still a university student.
Kwon condemned, "This young man’s sweat, effort, and time during the presidential campaign are by no means less than that of the suddenly promoted Level 1 Secretary at the Blue House. How dare the Democratic Party, which created parachute Level 1 appointments, criticize a Level 9 position achieved through effort?"
He concluded, "As always, the Democratic Party criticizes others by standards it cannot uphold itself. The Democratic Party’s boomerang attacks, which always come back to themselves, are truly regrettable."
