[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A young network organization aimed at supporting the social activities of women residing in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and breaking down barriers through creating an equal society is being launched.
This is the first time since the implementation of local autonomy in 1995 that women in the district have united to form a public-private cooperative organization that acts as a control tower based on women's agendas in collaboration with administrative agencies.
According to Nam-gu on the 15th, the Nam-gu Women’s Network inauguration ceremony will be held on the 22nd at 4 p.m. in the large conference room on the 8th floor of the district office.
The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by about 100 people, including District Mayor Kim Byung-nae, members participating in the Nam-gu Women’s Network, female supporters and small group members active in the district, representatives of women’s organizations, and local residents.
The newly launched Nam-gu Women’s Network is a public-private cooperative organization for creating a women-friendly city, aiming to carry out diverse activities to build a local community where gender equality and women’s safety are guaranteed.
In particular, as a control tower organization in the women’s field, it plans to participate in the decision-making process related to women’s policies established by the district office and actively work to create a warm care society together with all members of the local community, as well as promote women’s economic growth.
The Nam-gu Women’s Network consists of 12 young women with performance and capabilities, playing a very important role in the ongoing “Women-Friendly City Creation Project” conducted by the district office.
They plan to actively support women’s social participation through exchanges with women’s small groups and citizen participation teams active in the local community, and to suggest directions for policy development in the women’s field, doing their best to break down entry barriers related to women, such as overcoming gender stereotypes.
A Nam-gu official stated, “With the formation of a young and capable network organization, it is expected to greatly contribute to the women-friendly city creation project promoted by the district office and to building a gender-equal Nam-gu where everyone develops together.”
