Lee Hak-su, Jeongeup Mayor, Discusses National Budget Securing Measures at Budget Policy Council

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] On the 15th, Lee Hak-su, mayor of Jeongeup City, attended the Jeollabuk-do National Assembly Members, Province, City, and County Budget Policy Council held at the Jeonbuk Provincial Government Comprehensive Situation Room and announced that they discussed cooperation plans for securing national budgets and regional development.

The Jeollabuk-do National Assembly Members, Province, City, and County Budget Policy Council was attended by Kim Kwan-young, governor of Jeonbuk Province, Mayor Lee Hak-su, along with 14 other mayors, county heads, and local National Assembly members.

The council was organized to discuss ways to secure national budgets, ensure the smooth progress of major projects in each city and county, find solutions, and to foster cooperation and communication as one team among the governor, mayors, county heads, and local National Assembly members.

At the meeting, Mayor Lee explained the progress of key projects under focused management at the Ministry of Economy and Finance stage (including the Jeongeup Advanced Medical Complex Project, establishment of shared infrastructure for microorganisms in agriculture and livestock, and the establishment of a dedicated vaccine safety evaluation base, among eight projects).

He also requested active cooperation and support from Jeonbuk Province and National Assembly members to secure additional regional budgets that were under-reflected in the government budget.

Mayor Lee said, “Once the ‘Jeongeup Advanced Medical Complex Project,’ included in the 20th presidential election pledges, is completed, it will complete the national bio-health triangle belt connecting the Seoul metropolitan area, central region, Yeongnam region, and Honam region,” and added, “Please actively support Jeongeup City to be designated as an advanced medical complex.”

He continued, “I explained the feasibility and necessity of the shared infrastructure establishment project for microorganisms used in agriculture and livestock, which involves a total project cost of 20 billion KRW and a 2023 national budget request of 500 million KRW, and asked for active support to ensure budget reflection at the National Assembly stage.”

Along with this, he also proposed active support for the ‘Dedicated Vaccine Safety Evaluation Base Establishment Project,’ which Jeongeup City has been tirelessly striving to secure project funds for over the past three years.

Mayor Lee stated, “To respond to national infectious disease disasters such as COVID-19 and continuous mutant viruses, it is necessary to establish a foundation that can systematically support public vaccine development,” and urged, “Since the Ministry of Science and ICT also recognizes the feasibility and necessity of the project, please show great interest to secure national funding.”

Starting with this National Assembly Members, Province, City, and County Budget Policy Council, the city plans to strengthen its cooperation system with local political circles and Jeonbuk Province and conduct multidimensional responses such as visiting key personnel at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Assembly Budget Committee.
