[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] The basic living base development project in Nam-myeon, Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is scheduled to be actively promoted starting from the second half of this year.
According to the county on the 14th, this project aims to revitalize the depressed township area by creating facilities such as a cultural center and an exchange plaza to enhance living convenience and strengthen cultural and welfare service functions.
The project budget is approximately 4 billion KRW, with completion targeted for the first half of next year.
Nam-myeon, adjacent to Gwangju Metropolitan City, is entirely within a development restriction zone, which caused many difficulties in selecting the site for the cultural center and obtaining project approval.
The promotion committee composed of Nam-myeon residents and Jangseong-gun prepared a basic plan last year and, after several rounds of discussions and persuasion with Jeollanam-do and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, succeeded in obtaining approval for the basic plan.
The cultural center located near Jukbun Reservoir is a two-story building equipped with a multipurpose room, health care room, and club rooms, serving as a complex cultural space for local residents.
The exchange plaza, established on the site of the old township office, will be installed on a 2,439㎡ site with a lawn plaza, shaded rest area, and parking lot.
A county official said, “Since this project reflects the valuable opinions of residents, we will proceed without any setbacks to establish it as a cultural and communication space.”
Meanwhile, the county is promoting the basic living base development project in three locations including Nam-myeon, Jinwon-myeon, and Bukil-myeon, investing a total project cost of 12 billion KRW to promote balanced regional development.
