Namwon-si Does Not Implement Mandatory Social Distancing... Public Participation and Practice-Oriented Quarantine

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] According to the announcement by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the 13th, the Namwon City Public Health Center in Jeonbuk will not currently consider nationwide uniform social distancing measures as before in response to the COVID-19 resurgence, and will operate based on voluntary public participation.

On the 14th, the city stated that the new public participation and practice-type quarantine measures differ from the existing social distancing by relying on voluntary quarantine practices in various social sectors rather than imposing broad restrictions on daily life.

The main quarantine rules are as follows: First, individuals should wear masks at tourist and vacation spots, wash hands, observe cough etiquette, get vaccinated before traveling, and get tested immediately if symptoms appear.

Second, workplaces should conduct regular disinfection, wear masks, minimize face-to-face meetings and maintain distance between attendees, and refrain from going to work if suspicious symptoms arise.

Third, at resorts and multi-use facilities, regular ventilation and disinfection inside the facilities, alleviation of congestion, maintaining distance between users, and recommending mask-wearing are advised. In particular, windows should be opened frequently for ventilation for at least 10 minutes before and after business hours (30 minutes or more), mechanical ventilation should be operated continuously, the time masks are removed indoors for eating should be kept as short as possible, and masks should be worn at all other times.

A Namwon City Public Health Center official said, “Separate from social distancing, the remaining minimum quarantine measures such as the 7-day isolation obligation for confirmed cases and indoor mask-wearing obligation will be maintained, and we ask the public to strictly follow quarantine rules under their own responsibility.”

Meanwhile, as of midnight on the same day, 23 people were infected with COVID-19, bringing the cumulative total to 25,956 cases. On the previous day, 67 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were conducted.
