[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, is actively promoting the development of a natural recreation forest near Ungok Wetland that combines ecology, scenery, recreation, and experiential activities.
According to the county on the 14th, the Korea Forest Service recently designated and announced an area of 544,000㎡, including 481-14 Yonggye-ri, Asan-myeon, and five other parcels, as the "Gureumgol Natural Recreation Forest" (Korea Forest Service Announcement No. 2022-72).
Accordingly, the county has secured a project budget of 9.4 billion KRW to create a natural recreation forest combining ecology, scenery, recreation, and experiential activities for a healthy life by 2024.
The county aims to create the "Ungok Recreation Valley" by adding dynamic experiential elements in line with the trend of travelers emphasizing hands-on experiences while staying at destinations.
The natural recreation forest, the first recreational facility in Gochang-gun, will cover an area of 54.5 hectares and will include 20 forest houses, a forest campground, tree houses, a visitor center, a forest playground, an access road (L=400m), a parking lot (50 spaces), walking trails, and other auxiliary facilities.
Once the Gureumgol Natural Recreation Forest is completed, it will form a premium tourist course linked with various cultural and ecological tourism facilities such as Ungok Ramsar Wetland, Bokbunja Recreation Area, Golfzon County Seonun, Seonunsan Provincial Park, Dolmen Historic Site, Celadon Kiln Site (planned), and Ungok Forest Leisure Sports Park (planned).
A county official said, "We will create a sensory satisfaction-type recreation valley where recreation and leisure sports are possible, and at the same time, continuously build tourism infrastructure nearby to establish it as a hub for forest tourism projects in Jeonbuk."
