The Korea Youth Work Agency (Chairman Lee Kwang-ho, KYWA) announced on the 12th that it has reviewed the operational status of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s national policy design project, the "Stepping Stone Project," which has been underway since April to support slow learners.
During the first workshop (June 15, National Youth Center) and the second workshop (July 6, FastFive shared office, Gangnam, Seoul), issues faced by slow learners at school, home, and society were discussed and analyzed by keywords. They also deliberated on programs and policy support measures needed for slow learner youth.
Based on the workshop discussions, on July 12, they participated in an on-site consultation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, sharing the achievements of the workshops so far with experts and receiving advice on improvements and future operational plans.
KYWA’s Slow Learner National Policy Design Team consists of five members: two field experts (Professor Seok Mal-sook of the Department of Social Welfare at Nasaret University and Director Lee Chang-hee of the Chungbuk Support Group for Community Child Centers) and three general public members (Research Director Im Jin-su of the Slow Learner Citizens’ Association, parent Cho Hyun-jung, and Team Leader Yoon Sang-i of the Chungbuk Support Group for Community Child Centers).
The first and second workshops involved all five members of the Slow Learner National Policy Design Team and CEO Cho Hyun-joo (Studio Flo Co.) as a service designer. During the first workshop, three students from Mokcheon Elementary School in the local community were invited to hear youth opinions.
Three additional workshops are scheduled to be held by September, where discussions will focus on creating prototypes of social skills improvement program teaching materials for slow learners and generating ideas for medium- and long-term support according to the life cycle of slow learners.
Lee Kwang-ho, Chairman of the Korea Youth Work Agency, stated, “Through the National Policy Design Team workshops, we will effectively reflect the opinions of demanders, policy providers, and experts to develop youth activities necessary for slow learners and support their growth together.”
