[Seoul District News] Geumcheon-gu, 3-Story Building with 359.41㎡ Total Floor Area Featuring Restrooms and Lounges for Market Visitors, Additional Customer Convenience Facilities Including Market Community Space, Expecting Vibrant Traditional Market... Eunpyeong-gu Recruiting 'Local Creators' for Commercial Area Revitalization
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) has constructed a customer convenience facility at Nammun Market to enhance the convenience of market merchants and shopping customers.
On July 11, Geumcheon-gu held a completion ceremony attended by over 80 people, including the merchants' association and district officials.
Until now, merchants and residents using Nammun Market had to conduct market administration, merchant education, and meetings in a cramped space (50.4㎡), continuously raising the need for spatial improvement.
To ensure building safety and economic efficiency, Geumcheon-gu demolished the existing building and invested 1.4 billion KRW over two years to construct a three-story customer convenience facility with a total floor area of 359.41㎡ (including 8 parking spaces). This is one floor and 258.88㎡ larger than the previous building.
The first floor (134.11㎡) includes a customer lounge, restrooms, and a parcel room for the convenience of market visitors. The second floor (125.30㎡) houses the merchants' association office, and the third floor (100㎡) is designed as a multipurpose large meeting room also serving as a club room.
In particular, the first floor was designed as a comfortable space considering the high usage of restrooms by market visitors, and the customer lounge was arranged to help foster a market community.
Geumcheon-gu expects that the new customer convenience facility will benefit both market merchants and customers, bringing more vitality to the traditional market.
At the completion ceremony, Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, “Nammun Market is regaining vitality through the merchants' own efforts combined with district support. I hope this customer convenience facility will greatly contribute to market revitalization and the recovery of the stagnant local economy.”
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is recruiting participants for the ‘Local Creator’ project, which promotes local small businesses to revitalize the local economy affected by COVID-19, until the 22nd of this month.
‘Local Creator’ is a compound word combining ‘local’ and ‘creator,’ referring to people who produce content and discover unique and valuable local stores to promote commercial districts.
The application deadline is 6 PM on the 22nd. Eligible participants are residents or workers in the Eunpyeong area who have experience editing videos or are active on blogs or Instagram.
Applicants can apply online by scanning the QR code on the promotional poster and submitting the application form. Selection will be based on a comprehensive review of blog posts, visitor numbers, and other factors.
Selected creators will receive benefits such as content education and activity funding necessary for promotional marketing. The education will be conducted by renowned instructors covering video production methods and activity guidance, helping participants acquire commercial district branding skills.
Additionally, support will be provided for publishing magazines analyzing commercial district characteristics and registering on portal site Smart Place.
Eunpyeong-gu Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “Through this project, we hope to alleviate the difficulties faced by small business owners during the challenging COVID-19 period and help revitalize commercial districts. We will continue to strive to implement various projects to boost the local economy.”
