[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 12th that it held the opening ceremony of the National Muui-do Natural Recreation Forest. Full-scale operation will begin on the 15th of this month.

The Muui-do Natural Recreation Forest is located adjacent to Hanagae Beach in Jung-gu, Incheon. Considering it is just a one-hour distance from Seoul, the Korea Forest Service explained that residents of the metropolitan area will be able to conveniently use the recreation services.

In the reservation lottery for natural recreation forests during this year's peak season (July 15 to August 24), Muui-do Natural Recreation Forest recorded an average competition rate of 36 to 1, attracting the highest number of applicants among all national natural recreation forests nationwide.

Nam Sung-hyun, head of the Korea Forest Service, said, “Muui-do Natural Recreation Forest is located near the urban area, providing the advantage that anyone, including socially vulnerable groups, can conveniently visit and use the recreational facilities. The Korea Forest Service will continue to minimize blind spots in forest welfare services by creating additional forest recreation spaces and establish conditions for forest recreation spaces to contribute to regional development.”

Meanwhile, the Muui-do Natural Recreation Forest was developed over five years from 2018 with a total project cost of 13.4 billion KRW. This recreation forest features facilities such as two forest culture and recreation halls, eleven forest houses, one visitor information center, and two kilometers of walking trails, under the theme of “forest recreation and marine tourism within the urban area.”
