No Suspected Symptoms Among 49 Monkeypox Contacts... All Under Surveillance Ended (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] All contacts of the first confirmed monkeypox case in Korea have completed monitoring without any symptoms.

The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 12th that monitoring of all 49 individuals who had contact with the confirmed monkeypox patient has ended.

The headquarters explained, "From the last exposure date on June 21, active monitoring was conducted for medium-risk contacts for 21 days, and passive monitoring was carried out for low-risk contacts," adding, "All contacts completed monitoring without any suspected symptoms."

The first confirmed monkeypox patient in Korea reported suspicion directly to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency after arriving at Incheon Airport on the 21st of last month. The patient was subsequently confirmed positive, received isolation treatment, and was released from isolation 15 days after confirmation on the 7th. The patient's health condition at discharge was reported to be good.

The health authorities classified 49 passengers who boarded the same flight as the first confirmed patient as contacts, categorizing them into 8 medium-risk and 41 low-risk individuals according to exposure risk, and conducted active and passive monitoring accordingly.

The authorities stated, "We surveyed medium-risk contacts about their willingness to receive vaccination, but none expressed interest."
