Carrot Sonhae Insurance Installs Autonomous Driving Analysis Device, Rewards Points and Benefits for Safe Driving
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 12th that they will implement the ‘Cargo Truck Safe Driving Project’ (Today’s Good Driver) together with Carrot General Insurance to reduce traffic accidents involving cargo trucks.
This project is jointly promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and Carrot General Insurance, with support from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, among other traffic safety-related organizations and insurance companies, to reduce traffic accident damages caused by cargo trucks, which have been increasing due to the expansion of non-face-to-face transactions.
Cargo truck drivers can participate in this campaign free of charge regardless of whether they are subscribed to Carrot General Insurance. Drivers who wish to participate can apply through the Carrot General Insurance website or by searching ‘Carrot Good Driver’ in a search engine and applying via the website.
Participants will install an automatic driving analysis device distributed by Carrot General Insurance and receive safe driving points based on their practice of safe driving, such as obeying speed limits, during the month of August. These points can be exchanged for various benefits such as fuel vouchers and convenience store coupons.
Participants will be evaluated on their safe driving score based on the number of risky driving behaviors such as obeying speed limits, sudden starts and stops, and rapid acceleration or deceleration during each trip. If the safe driving score is 40 points or higher, safe driving points will be awarded proportionally to the driving distance. These safe driving points can be exchanged for fuel vouchers, coffee, convenience store coupons, etc., and are provided through Carrot General Insurance’s safe driving benefit program regardless of subscription status.
Additionally, among drivers who drive a certain distance within Seoul during the month, the top 16 drivers with the highest accumulated safe driving points will be selected and awarded certificates from the Mayor of Seoul, the Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and other project participating organization heads, along with prizes provided by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
Jung-chul Bae, head of the Seoul branch of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, said, “This project is a campaign where the public and private sectors collaborate to analyze actual driving behavior and encourage safe driving,” adding, “We will work with related organizations to create a system where safe driving leads to economic benefits such as insurance premium discounts.” Su-jin Lee, head of the Traffic Operation Division of Seoul City, said, “The driving distance of cargo trucks is increasing due to the rise in delivery volumes,” and added, “We hope this campaign will raise awareness of cargo truck accidents and serve as an opportunity to reduce traffic accidents involving cargo trucks.”
