Eight Committee Members Visit Seokdong Water Purification Plant
City Focuses on Normalizing Tap Water

Changwon City Larvae Investigation Special Committee "Thoroughly Examine Water Purification Facility Suitability and Adequacy" The Special Investigation Committee on Larvae Identification at Seokdong Water Purification Plant in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, conducted an on-site inspection of the Seokdong Water Purification Plant on the 11th.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] On the 11th, eight members of the Special Investigation Committee on Larvae Identification in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, conducted an on-site inspection at the Seokdong Water Purification Plant where larvae had appeared.


The committee members visited the site to review the Seokdong Water Purification Plant's production process diagram, water quality status, and water source supply system diagram, aiming to identify the cause of the larvae outbreak and devise measures to prevent recurrence.


At the site, they directly checked the water purification production process at 13 locations, thoroughly inspecting the operational status and management conditions of each facility and carefully examining any abnormalities.


The special investigation team will conduct activities for about two weeks, including the on-site inspection on the 11th, and plans to propose to the city the causes of larvae occurrence, measures to ensure the safety of water purification facilities, and recurrence prevention strategies.


Regarding the larvae outbreak, the city explained, "We are managing the production process and facility operations without any gaps, and immediately implemented seven emergency measures to normalize the water system upon any incidents or accidents. Currently, administrative efforts are focused on restoring tap water through a 24-hour emergency response team."


The city is conducting immediate on-site investigations in areas where larvae complaints have occurred and is continuously monitoring 37 locations, including water purification plants and reservoirs, with daily checks.


Additionally, to remove larvae, the city is preparing normal operations for 10 rapid filtration sites and 3 washing and activated carbon filtration sites using water with a residual chlorine level of 2 ppm, and has completed cleaning of 2 sedimentation basins.


Lee Jong-deok, Director of the Waterworks Office, stated, "We are concentrating our best efforts to produce high-quality tap water in the shortest possible time. We are managing the water purification production process meticulously so that citizens can safely drink tap water without concern."
