High Possibility of Nominee Kim Juhyun's Appointment
Formation of Personnel Review Special Committee, Urging Reexamination of Appointment Criteria
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Amid high chances of the appointment of Kim Joo-hyun as the Financial Services Commission chairman nominee, Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, pressured the ruling party by stating, "If the ruling and opposition parties fail to reach an agreement on the National Assembly organization negotiations by today, the Democratic Party will strongly request the Speaker of the National Assembly to immediately begin forming the Special Committee on Personnel Hearings along with the Special Committee on Livelihood Economy."
In his remarks at the party's emergency committee meeting on the 11th, Floor Leader Park said, "The likelihood of Kim's appointment seems high. This is a wrongful personnel appointment."
He added, "Negotiations on the National Assembly organization between the ruling and opposition parties are actively underway. It is common sense to cooperate actively for the normalization of the National Assembly and wait for the personnel hearings," and said, "The public will no longer tolerate forced appointments without National Assembly hearings."
He also pointed out, "There has been no progress in the organization negotiations due to internal conflicts and delay tactics within the People Power Party."
On the same day, Floor Leader Park urged a fundamental reexamination of the personnel screening standards and verification methods, saying, "The disaster of unfair and inadequate personnel verification continues endlessly."
He criticized, "Song Ok-ryeol, nominee for the Fair Trade Commission chairman, voluntarily withdrew. Following Kim In-chul, Jeong Ho-young, Kim Seung-hee as minister nominees, and Kim Seung-hye, religious secretary, this is the fifth withdrawal. The biggest problem is that despite prior knowledge of the candidates' sexual misconduct controversies, they were still nominated claiming there was no issue."
He added, "The responsibility of the personnel screening team must never be overlooked."
