"Robotic Process Automation, Not a Choice but a Necessity... From Cost Reduction to Employee Achievement" Hyekyung Park, CEO of UiPath

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Japan's largest advertising company, Dentsu, employs staff members with autism. Although there were many concerns about productivity, after the introduction of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), they have achieved the same productivity as regular employees. This case is recognized as an excellent ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) example in Japan, highlighting the importance of RPA adoption.

On the 8th, Park Hyekyung, CEO of UiPath, who met with Asia Economy, said, "RPA refers to robots that automatically handle simple repetitive tasks implemented through software," adding, "While the first generation of RPA focused solely on efficiency, now we are concentrating on distributing second-generation RPA to companies, which supports employee growth and ESG implementation."

UiPath supplies RPA to over 8,500 global companies. Since establishing a branch in Korea in February 2018, it has served major financial institutions such as KB Kookmin Bank and Woori Bank, as well as clients like Hyundai Motor Company, LG Group, and SK Telecom.

CEO Park introduced KB Kookmin Bank's work automation as a representative case. Originally, the 'salary transfer registration task' was a simple registration process, but it required employees to check items and proceed, consuming considerable time. However, with the introduction of robot software that automatically handles this task, employees only need to make the final decision, automating the work. The total reduced work time amounts to 1 million hours, with a final goal of 3 million hours.

CEO Park explained, "The MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z), who do not want simple repetitive tasks, have become the main force in the industry," adding, "In the 'mass resignation era,' where the rate of work increase outpaces the rate of employee growth, RPA adoption by companies is not a choice but a necessity."

CEO Park particularly sees RPA playing a significant role in ESG management. She explained that it can increase not only productivity but also employees' sense of achievement.

CEO Park emphasized, "The importance of RPA has increased for companies that have experienced uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "RPA will continue to grow as a means to enhance employees' work satisfaction as a business strategy, beyond simple cost reduction and productivity improvement."
