[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min strongly criticized Lee Jun-seok, the party leader, who received a '6-month suspension of party membership' on the 9th, saying, "Looking at the Ethics Committee and the Yoon core faction, they seem like gangsters."
At his book launch event held at a cultural center in Suseong-gu, Daegu, on the afternoon of the same day, former lawmaker Yoo said, "To avoid being called a case of 'throwing away the dog after hunting,' everything should have been handled based on fairness and common sense from beginning to end, but that was not the case."
He pointed out, "The Ethics Committee imposed a heavy punishment based only on suspicions," and asked, "How is this different from what gangsters do?"
Former lawmaker Yoo said, "I have no intention of defending Leader Lee at all," and added, "If Leader Lee committed an illegal act, he should be punished according to the law." He then questioned, "But if the suspicions are not true, how ridiculous is the Ethics Committee's decision?"
He continued, "Some people continue to act arrogantly as Yoon core faction members even after a final guilty verdict from the Supreme Court, and others have been refusing police investigations for two months, haven't they?" and elaborated, "It is unacceptable to impose a heavy punishment on the leader based only on suspicions."
