250,000 KRW Per Person, Targeting 26,261 Households
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Lee Sang-geun, the governor of Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, has decided to provide 250,000 KRW per person as a ‘COVID-19 Coexistence Citizen Support Fund’ to all residents.
The governor said, “Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, oil prices and living costs have soared, causing significant damage to residents,” adding, “Stabilizing residents’ lives and revitalizing the local economy is an urgent matter.”
On the 5th, he formed a COVID-19 Coexistence Citizen Support Fund Task Force led by Park Won-cheol, head of the Resident Life Division, and instructed six employees from welfare and IT departments to prepare for the support fund distribution.
The task force is carrying out duties such as adjusting the timing of the fund distribution, and has reported the support plan to the first monthly meeting of the 9th Goseong-gun Council members, requesting budget support.
According to the county, the support fund is scheduled to be given in early August to 50,018 people across 26,261 households, and will be provided in the form of the local currency, Goseong Sarang Gift Certificates.
Applications can be made at the nearest eup/myeon office or community center regardless of address, by presenting an ID card or similar identification.
A county official stated, “A budget of 12.5 billion KRW will be invested to prepare the support fund, and we aim to inject vitality into the local commercial district by distributing it before Chuseok,” adding, “We hope that this year’s Chuseok preparations will be made using the local Sarang Gift Certificates within our region.”
The governor said, “We hope that the citizen support fund will provide stability to households facing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, restore consumer sentiment, and revitalize the local economy,” and added, “We will strive to realize universal welfare for all residents.”
