The First Domestic Monkeypox Case Discharged Yesterday... "All Lesions Fully Recovered" (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The first domestic patient infected with monkeypox has fully recovered and been discharged.

On the 8th, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced that patient A, the first confirmed case of monkeypox in Korea, was released from isolation and discharged on the 7th.

The agency explained that the decision to lift isolation was made after comprehensively considering patient A's clinical symptoms and skin lesion conditions. The medical staff treating patient A determined that the infectiousness had disappeared after all scabs fell off from the skin lesions and new skin tissue was generated. It is known that the patient's health condition was good at the time of discharge.

Patient A entered Korea from Germany on the 21st of last month and voluntarily reported at Incheon Airport, where he was confirmed positive for monkeypox on the following day, the 22nd. He was then transferred to Incheon Medical Center, a nationally designated inpatient treatment facility, and received symptomatic treatment based on the visible symptoms during the isolation period.

With discharge and isolation lifted on the 7th, patient A's isolation period lasted 16 days from the date of confirmation.
