Wando-gun Holds Jeonnam Sports Festival Kickoff Ceremony, Resolves to Ensure Successful Event

Organizing Committee Composed of 133 Members, Strong First Step Toward Successful Jeonnam Sports Festival

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, officially began preparations for hosting the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival by holding the organizing committee launch ceremony at the Culture and Arts Center on the 6th.

According to the county on the 7th, the organizing committee consists of 133 members, including related organizations and sports officials.

The launch ceremony started with the organizing committee chairman (Wando-gun Mayor Shin Woo-cheol) presenting the appointment letter to Vice Chairman Choi Kyung-chul of the Wando-gun Sports Council, followed by reports on the progress of the event, approval of the organizing and executive committee operation regulations, budget plans, and a resolution reading by committee members Choi Seok-man and Lim Hee-duk.

Organizing Committee Chairman Shin Woo-cheol stated, “We hope to successfully lead the large-scale events held consecutively, such as the Jeonnam Sports Festival and the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Festival, which are being hosted for the first time since the establishment of the county, to revitalize the local economy that has been stagnant due to COVID-19,” and added, “Let us gather all our capabilities and do our best to prepare so that the Jeonnam Sports Festival can become a festival that promotes unity among the residents of Jeonnam.”

Scheduled to be held in Wando around May next year, the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival aims for a ‘Successful and Participatory Festival,’ ‘Safe and Economic Festival,’ ‘Cultural and Tourism Festival,’ and ‘Harmony and Hope Festival.’ A total of 24 events will be held, including 22 official sports, 1 demonstration sport, and 1 exhibition sport, with teams from 22 cities and counties participating.

It is expected that about 20,000 people, including athletes, will visit Wando during the event period.
