[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] "Nokia is ready to continuously support Korea's Industry 4.0 revolution."
On the morning of the 7th, Taeho Ahn, CEO of Nokia Korea, emphasized this at the ‘MWC Revisited 2022 Korea’ event held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul, stating, "We will provide the best solutions to lead the future journey of digital transformation and 5G."
This event showcased the latest technologies and solutions introduced at the '2022 Mobile World Congress (MWC)' held in Spain last March, now presented again in Korea. This year also marks the 15th anniversary of Nokia's business operations in Korea.
Han Hyo-chan, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Nokia Korea, is introducing Nokia's innovations, products, and solutions.
Hyochan Han, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Nokia Korea, said, "Nokia possesses various 5G applications and solutions that can deliver uncompromising performance to telecom operators and enterprises," adding, "As a leading company in IP, optical transport, and enterprise business, we can provide sustainable solutions."
A representative eco-friendly product is the liquid-cooled base station. This is part of Nokia’s AirScale base station portfolio. It incorporates liquid cooling technology to enhance wireless network sustainability and reduce costs. It is explained that this product can reduce base station carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80%, thereby lowering the energy required for cooling. This product recently won the Mobile Technology Innovation Award at the GTI Awards 2022.
Nokia introduced the 'liquid-cooled base station' for the first time at the MWC 2022 event in March this year. It features built-in liquid cooling technology, making it environmentally friendly.
Dr. Bong-Yeol Jo of Nokia explained, "Although liquid cooling is widely used in gaming PCs, it was difficult to apply to base stations due to the massive damage that could occur if water leaked," adding, "This product, which took more than three years of technological development including perfect waterproofing, was first unveiled at this year’s MWC." He also mentioned that it produces less noise and is energy-efficient.
Nokia plans to continue collaborating with domestic telecom and enterprise customer partners. CTO Hyochan Han stated, "We have been cooperating with the three major telecom companies on 4G (LTE) and 5G," and added, "We are also discussing and achieving results with various customers preparing for ‘Eum 5G (5G specialized networks)’ in both public and private sectors." Nokia has also conducted interoperability pilot operations between the 5G SME Contela’s core and the global Radio Access Network (RAN) at the Eum 5G Open Lab.
Meanwhile, the event also introduced 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). Through FWA, customers can receive broadband communications similar to fiber optics anywhere mobile frequencies are available. Enterprise 5G specialized networks tailored for industrial demand and the new core FP5 router product of the IP service routing platform were also introduced.
