[Featured Stock] Seoul Viosys, World's First UV LED Insect Trap Technology... 13 Times More Effective Than Mercury Lamps

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Seoul Viosys is showing strong performance. The news that it has proven the effectiveness of rapidly eradicating the 'Lovebug (suspected to be cinnamon fly)' swarming in some parts of Seoul and around Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, appears to have influenced its stock price.

As of 2:25 PM on the 7th, Seoul Viosys is trading at 7,310 KRW, up 13.31% from the previous day.

Seoul Viosys, a specialist in optical semiconductors, recently announced that in an experiment capturing the swarming Lovebugs, it confirmed the eradication effect using its short-wavelength optical semiconductor technology 'Violeds'.

The 'Violeds' technology is an insect trapping technology that uses ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to attract and capture mosquitoes, fruit flies, and others. Seoul Viosys developed the world's first optimal insect trapping technology with the wavelength, brightness, and design structure preferred by mosquitoes. The experiment was conducted to verify whether it is also effective in eradicating Lovebugs as well as mosquitoes.

Through experiments conducted with experts, Seoul Viosys confirmed that the insect trapping power of Violeds is up to nearly 13 times higher compared to conventional mercury lamp insect traps.

Um Hoon-sik, Senior Researcher of the UV Business Division at Seoul Viosys, explained, "Global companies such as Yuhan Corporation and Rentokil have adopted and mass-produced the 'Violeds' technology."

He added, "Pest control using insecticides like mosquito repellents is harmful to the human body and involves the hassle and poor hygiene of cleaning up dead insects. In hygienic commercial facilities such as homes with children or restaurants, installing insect trapping facilities equipped with 'Violeds' technology is the optimal method for pest control."

Seoul Viosys holds the number one position in the ultraviolet (UV) LED market with a 14.8% market share. This surpasses Japanese companies such as Nichia, Nightright Semiconductor, and Nikiso. The UV LEDs developed and mass-produced first in the world by Seoul Viosys sterilize 99% of Delta and Omicron variant viruses in just one second.
