[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station announced on the 7th that it will promote the installation of residential fire safety equipment year-round to prevent house fires and reduce casualties and property damage.
According to the Fire Agency, out of a total of 36,267 fires in 2021, 10,005 were house fires, accounting for 27.6% of all fire incidents occurring in residential locations.
Residential fire safety equipment refers to standalone smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. According to Article 8 of the Act on Fire Prevention, Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities and Safety Management, general residences such as single-family houses, multi-family houses, row houses, and multiplex houses are required to install residential fire safety equipment.
The Western Fire Station is promoting measures to increase the installation rate of residential fire safety equipment, including ▲free distribution to fire-vulnerable groups ▲creation of fire-free safe villages ▲operation of a one-stop support center.
A fire official stated, “Voluntary participation by citizens is most important to increase the installation rate of residential fire safety equipment,” and added, “We ask for active participation in installing residential fire safety equipment to foster a culture of safety.”
